In the late 19th century, Chelsea designed and perfected a mechanical clock that could withstand the often violent motion of ships at sea (pendulum clocks couldn't) and added internal ship's bells.
Seamen have cursed (and blessed) their accuracy ever since.
Smaller versions of the Ship's Bell Clock have become the American classic clock.
Today they still go to sea but more often they are found in fine homes and offices. American presidents keep them in the White House and present them to visiting heads of state.
The Nickel Plated Chelsea Ship's Bell Clock dial has deeply etched and enameled numerals that can be seen from across a room. If you wish,the bells can be silenced at night. The Ship's Bell clock is numbered and registered in leather bound movement record books dating back to 1897. It comes packaged in a custom designed and manufactured gift box, and has a five year warranty.
